Why an SSL certificate is a must

(And how we can help you sort it out)

These days we all store our personal and financial information online; from banking apps and credit cards on your phone to withdrawing cash without a physical card and paying with Apple Pay and so on!

Did you know that anyone can see information that’s entered on a website (usernames, passwords, credit cards) if it’s not encrypted with an SSL certificate?

It is imperative for any website that asks the user to share their personal or financial data to provide the highest security possible to be trusted, used and of course, prevent identity theft and any fraudulent activity.

Google has made it mandatory now for any site asking users to login to protect them with an SSL certificate (Secure Sockets Layer) – the most common, easy to implement and secure tool out there.  When in place, SSL only allows thewebsite and the user to be able to see that information and protects them from accessing personal data.

SSL certificate will not only protect user’s sensitive information, but will also keep data secure between servers, build customer’s trust in your brand and increase your Google rankings (all contributing to improving traffic and conversion rates).

While SSL is not perfect – due to encoding and decoding information on both ends, loading the data can be slower than without the certificate. Hence only the relevant pages and data input pages are encrypted, rather than entire website. SSL also require private IP addresses, which may cost a little extra if you don’t already own a private server. It also takes a little time to purchase, set up and renew – and that’s where BEAM can help.

BEAM’s SSL package includes cost of purchase (renewed yearly) and set up & purchase at $500. Drop us an email to websupport@beamcreative.com.au to find out more.
